LG Unveils The World's First 3 Way Sync Feature Phone At MWC 2010. LG GD880, LG Mini. LG Electronics (LG),

LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, has showcased its new LG Mini (LG GD880), the world`s first feature phone to support 3-Way Sync service, at the Mobile World Congress. The mobile trade show began on the 15th of February in the Spanish city of Barcelona and will run until the 18th. Measuring 10.6mm in depth and weighing just 99g, the LG Mini boasts an array of superb features including LG’s 3-Way Sync service, called LG Air Sync. This next-generation mobile technology enables users to continually sync the data on their phones with information stored on their PCs and their browser history over a wireless network, ensuring that contents such as photos, video clips, calendars and phone books can be updated and accessed at all times. As the first feature phone to support LG Air Sync, a form of the cloud computing so far available only on smartphones, LG expects the LG Mini to generate considerable buzz on the market.
“We live in an information-oriented society with vast amounts of data and content scattered all over the place. Because of this, one of the major battles in the future mobile market is likely to be in the data management technology industry, focusing on seamless access among different devices,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We have developed the LG Mini, which offers technological integration with its unique LG Air Sync service, in response to this trend.”

In keeping tabs on users’ personal preferences and information, the LG Air Sync works in three ways. First, through the History Sync function, the phone’s browser is updated with the 100 most recent websites users visited on their PC, allowing users to return to the exact webpage where they left off. Second, through the Personal Information Manager (PIM) Sync function, contact details and daily plans in the LG Mini can be transferred to user’s PC. Even when users lose or misplace their phone, any important data will be still accessible through their PC. Finally, with the R-Click function, pictures and information on users` PCs can be transferred instantly to the LG Mini, meaning any picture on a website can become the LG Mini`s wallpaper with just a simple click of the mouse.

The smallest and slimmest 3.2-inch full touchscreen phone on the market today, the LG Mini also comes with speedy web browsing and fast push email functions for even greater user convenience. Thanks to powerful SNS features, users can easily keep in touch with friends online via social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter while also getting constant updates of what their friends are up to.

With its tiny frame, the LG Mini also boasts a 5.0 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, FM radio and 7.2 Mbps HDSPA. The LG Mini will be available in Europe from March, followed by other markets.

GE Healthcare Launches Vscan, the Anywhere, Anytime Imaging Tool

The healthcare industry took another step forward, when the availability of the Vscan was recently announced by GE Healthcare. It is a pocket-sized visualization tool with imaging capabilities at the point-of-care.

Essentially, Vscan is a prescription device for ultrasound imaging, measurement and analysis in the clinical applications of abdominal, cardiac (adult and pediatric); urological, fetal/OB, pediatric, and thoracic/pleural motion and fluid detection.

It is a portable, smart phone size imaging tool, and its powerful ultra-smart ultrasound technology enables clinicians to peer inside the body in a non-invasive manner.

“Having Vscan at my disposal at all times has allowed me to use ultrasound in a number of settings and with patients that I wouldn’t have anticipated before--from the ICU, to the outpatient clinic as well as with ambulatory patients,” said Dr. Anthony N. DeMaria, Professor of Medicine, Judith and Jack White Chair in Cardiology and Director, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center at University of California, San Diego School of Medicine.

DeMaria further added that Vscan was more than a mere diagnostic tool and would play an important role in physical exams. He was confident that it would help physicians to make treatment decisions more quickly.

By using Vscan, clinicians may be in a position to detect disease earlier, and this would prove invaluable in view of the busy schedules of primary care physicians, of those specializing in cardiology, critical and emergency care as well as physicians practicing in hospitals.

Evaluating the initial performance of Vscan, Jose L. Zamorano, FESC, Director Cardiovascular Institute University Clinic San Carlos Madrid, Spain, said, “During our initial evaluation of approximately 100 patients using Vscan, we have been impressed with its image quality and ease of use.”

Zamorano, stressing the importance of the initial results after using Vscan, said that they had experienced first hand the value of the device during physical and clinical examination and relevant clinical information was forthcoming in one-fourth of the cases.

On receiving clearance in the United States and having been cleared in Europe and in Canada, Vscan is now commercially available, in the three countries and also in India.

Image quality offered by Vscan is comparable to that obtained by a console ultrasound. It leverages GE’s high-quality black and white image technology and color-coded blood flow imaging.

This device that fits into a pocket and weighs less than one pound at 3 inches wide and 5.3 inches long, has other features, which make it very useful. An online portal provides Vscan users with training tools for the product and basic clinical applications with sections about imaging technique, anatomy and trouble shooting.

Vscan has an intuitive user interface, which can be controlled using the thumb. Equipped with a battery charger station and a battery life of one hour scanning, it can be used on at least 30 patients based on an average of two minutes per scan. In addition, it can be linked to a PC to export date and has a USB docking station and Gateway (News - Alert) software with services tools and remote diagnostics.

GE Healthcare provides transformational medical technologies and services that are shaping a new age of patient care. With its broad expertise in imaging techniques and other allied fields, coupled with its partnership with healthcare leaders, it is helping clinicians around the world re-imagine new ways to predict, diagnose, inform, treat and monitor disease, so patients can live their lives to the fullest.

The company, which believes in innovative ideas, focuses on ultrasound applications that have new clinical value for patients enabling patients to view ultrasound in brand new ways.

HCL's PVC-Free Notebook ME 40 Arrives

HCL has introduced a Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) free notebook under its ME series branding - HCL ME 40. Dubbed as India's first eco-friendly notebook, ME 40 will join the existing ME-45 notebook which does have some PVC contents in its body. HCL's 15.4-inch ME 40 notebook sports an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and is available at a hefty price of Rs. 41,500 (excluding taxes).

The new HCL ME 40 has been designed and manufactured with eco-friendly materials that don't contain harmful components like PVC. This product is highly recyclable and aims at achieving the Green Computing concept. The 15.4-inch WXGA TFT LCD screen supports 1280x800 Native resolution.

HCL ME 40 comes equipped with 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor, upto 4GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD for storage and comes preloaded with Windows 7 Professional. Other features of this notebook include a 1.3 megapixel webcam, integrated 4-in-1 card reader, four USB ports and Bluetooth. Its battery life is claimed to be up to five hours.

ME 40 will have One Touch Support feature for better support and One Touch Recovery feature for faster data recovery by the user. If the user wants to share/transfer a large amount of data from ME branded laptops, HCL offers 'SPLIT ME' option to do it rapidly.

For data security, HCL offers Encrypt ME that encrypts the user data and 'LOCK ME' that locks the user data to protect against theft. Once enabled, it isn't possible for anyone to transfer, copy or write data from the encrypted system.

Several questions would be raised on ME 40's high price and low specifications but only tests can justify whether the product is worth it or not.
