Alt Text: Google Knows You're Buzzing About Buzz

The massive search company created Google Wave, an innovative collaboration tool that brings people together so they can work to figure out what Google Wave is good for.

So far, the service's main function seems to be getting people to send out invites to Google Wave, but Google is pretty sure that once every single person on the planet is participating in the exclusive invite-only preview, someone will figure out what to do with it.Call it the Twitter effect: There are currently so many companies competing to provide services people want, like e-mail, photo-sharing, video-sharing and pasting the heads of famous people on random naked bodies, that the only chance to make a splash online is to create a service that nobody has ever asked for, and invite enough people so that the masses figure out what to do with it for you.

I can't remember anyone in the history of textual communication saying, "Man, this message system has too many characters! I can practically fit a whole paragraph on this thing!" And yet, in spite of my early skepticism, I've discovered that Twitter is an indispensable way to dispose of jokes that aren't good enough for this column.

But this isn't about me. This is about Google, a company that has moved on from creating a tool nobody asked for to creating a tool people are actively angry about. The aptly named Google Buzz has gotten people talking excitedly in forum threads with titles like "How do I turn it off????" and "PRIVACY WARNING PLEASE READ."

The original version of Google Buzz raised privacy concerns by -- I'm not quite clear on all the details here, so I may be making this up -- automatically setting up a social network for you based on your Gmail contacts, then sending out a message to all of them saying, "Google Buzz is so awesome! And nothing about it raises privacy concerns!"

After an initial outcry, Google agreed to change "awesome" to "rad," and to only send out the message to people who are, according to the company's top-secret online research, not too worried about privacy.Since then, Google has made a series of privacy concessions, including the following:

* The opt-out page is now available in English, rather than just Urdu, Bengali and Middle Frisian.

* The service no longer mails Droid owners' locations to their mothers every half-hour.

* Google has pledged that Buzz will "only spam your contact list with half the meaningless crap that Facebook does."

* When you take a picture of yourself with a Buzz-enabled phone, the service will no longer automatically paste your head on a random naked body and add it to your Buzz feed.

* After you choose to unfollow people, you will now no longer follow them.

* Buzz will publish your home phone number to your profile page, so people who inadvertently expose your personal information can call and apologize.

Privacy advocates are not entirely mollified, mostly because they're still p-ss about that Google Street View photo of them adjusting their underwear. Google has responded by saying, "We have heard their concerns, and we want to assure them that we understand where they're coming from and know where they live."

Born helpless, nude and unable to provide for himself, Lore Sjöberg eventually overcame these handicaps to turn on, log in and opt out.

Following on from the launch last year of Kindle iPhone app, Amazon has now launched an app for Blackberry devices.

Amazon’s Kindle eBook service already enable’s readers to access books on the Kindle device itself as well as on Windows PCs and the Apple iPhone.

Those who have purchased books from the service can read them on any device, meaning that Blackberry owners can now join in too. The free app is available now for a number of Blackberry devices.
“Since the launch of our popular Kindle for iPhone app last year, customers have been asking us to bring a similar experience to the BlackBerry, and we are thrilled to make it available today,” said Ian Freed, Vice President, Amazon Kindle.

Plans to add Apple Macs and iPads to the list of devices supported by Kindle are already in development, although Amazon remains tight-lipped about whether it will make service available on phone’s using Google’s Android operating system.

Kindle for Blackberry represents an important step for Amazon in what is proving to be an increasingly hectic marketplace, although it’s presence on the iPad will be even more closely watched, especially in non-US territories where Apple’s competing iBooks service won’t be available on the tablet devices at launch.

LG Unveils The World's First 3 Way Sync Feature Phone At MWC 2010. LG GD880, LG Mini. LG Electronics (LG),

LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, has showcased its new LG Mini (LG GD880), the world`s first feature phone to support 3-Way Sync service, at the Mobile World Congress. The mobile trade show began on the 15th of February in the Spanish city of Barcelona and will run until the 18th. Measuring 10.6mm in depth and weighing just 99g, the LG Mini boasts an array of superb features including LG’s 3-Way Sync service, called LG Air Sync. This next-generation mobile technology enables users to continually sync the data on their phones with information stored on their PCs and their browser history over a wireless network, ensuring that contents such as photos, video clips, calendars and phone books can be updated and accessed at all times. As the first feature phone to support LG Air Sync, a form of the cloud computing so far available only on smartphones, LG expects the LG Mini to generate considerable buzz on the market.
“We live in an information-oriented society with vast amounts of data and content scattered all over the place. Because of this, one of the major battles in the future mobile market is likely to be in the data management technology industry, focusing on seamless access among different devices,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We have developed the LG Mini, which offers technological integration with its unique LG Air Sync service, in response to this trend.”

In keeping tabs on users’ personal preferences and information, the LG Air Sync works in three ways. First, through the History Sync function, the phone’s browser is updated with the 100 most recent websites users visited on their PC, allowing users to return to the exact webpage where they left off. Second, through the Personal Information Manager (PIM) Sync function, contact details and daily plans in the LG Mini can be transferred to user’s PC. Even when users lose or misplace their phone, any important data will be still accessible through their PC. Finally, with the R-Click function, pictures and information on users` PCs can be transferred instantly to the LG Mini, meaning any picture on a website can become the LG Mini`s wallpaper with just a simple click of the mouse.

The smallest and slimmest 3.2-inch full touchscreen phone on the market today, the LG Mini also comes with speedy web browsing and fast push email functions for even greater user convenience. Thanks to powerful SNS features, users can easily keep in touch with friends online via social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter while also getting constant updates of what their friends are up to.

With its tiny frame, the LG Mini also boasts a 5.0 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, FM radio and 7.2 Mbps HDSPA. The LG Mini will be available in Europe from March, followed by other markets.

GE Healthcare Launches Vscan, the Anywhere, Anytime Imaging Tool

The healthcare industry took another step forward, when the availability of the Vscan was recently announced by GE Healthcare. It is a pocket-sized visualization tool with imaging capabilities at the point-of-care.

Essentially, Vscan is a prescription device for ultrasound imaging, measurement and analysis in the clinical applications of abdominal, cardiac (adult and pediatric); urological, fetal/OB, pediatric, and thoracic/pleural motion and fluid detection.

It is a portable, smart phone size imaging tool, and its powerful ultra-smart ultrasound technology enables clinicians to peer inside the body in a non-invasive manner.

“Having Vscan at my disposal at all times has allowed me to use ultrasound in a number of settings and with patients that I wouldn’t have anticipated before--from the ICU, to the outpatient clinic as well as with ambulatory patients,” said Dr. Anthony N. DeMaria, Professor of Medicine, Judith and Jack White Chair in Cardiology and Director, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center at University of California, San Diego School of Medicine.

DeMaria further added that Vscan was more than a mere diagnostic tool and would play an important role in physical exams. He was confident that it would help physicians to make treatment decisions more quickly.

By using Vscan, clinicians may be in a position to detect disease earlier, and this would prove invaluable in view of the busy schedules of primary care physicians, of those specializing in cardiology, critical and emergency care as well as physicians practicing in hospitals.

Evaluating the initial performance of Vscan, Jose L. Zamorano, FESC, Director Cardiovascular Institute University Clinic San Carlos Madrid, Spain, said, “During our initial evaluation of approximately 100 patients using Vscan, we have been impressed with its image quality and ease of use.”

Zamorano, stressing the importance of the initial results after using Vscan, said that they had experienced first hand the value of the device during physical and clinical examination and relevant clinical information was forthcoming in one-fourth of the cases.

On receiving clearance in the United States and having been cleared in Europe and in Canada, Vscan is now commercially available, in the three countries and also in India.

Image quality offered by Vscan is comparable to that obtained by a console ultrasound. It leverages GE’s high-quality black and white image technology and color-coded blood flow imaging.

This device that fits into a pocket and weighs less than one pound at 3 inches wide and 5.3 inches long, has other features, which make it very useful. An online portal provides Vscan users with training tools for the product and basic clinical applications with sections about imaging technique, anatomy and trouble shooting.

Vscan has an intuitive user interface, which can be controlled using the thumb. Equipped with a battery charger station and a battery life of one hour scanning, it can be used on at least 30 patients based on an average of two minutes per scan. In addition, it can be linked to a PC to export date and has a USB docking station and Gateway (News - Alert) software with services tools and remote diagnostics.

GE Healthcare provides transformational medical technologies and services that are shaping a new age of patient care. With its broad expertise in imaging techniques and other allied fields, coupled with its partnership with healthcare leaders, it is helping clinicians around the world re-imagine new ways to predict, diagnose, inform, treat and monitor disease, so patients can live their lives to the fullest.

The company, which believes in innovative ideas, focuses on ultrasound applications that have new clinical value for patients enabling patients to view ultrasound in brand new ways.

HCL's PVC-Free Notebook ME 40 Arrives

HCL has introduced a Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) free notebook under its ME series branding - HCL ME 40. Dubbed as India's first eco-friendly notebook, ME 40 will join the existing ME-45 notebook which does have some PVC contents in its body. HCL's 15.4-inch ME 40 notebook sports an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and is available at a hefty price of Rs. 41,500 (excluding taxes).

The new HCL ME 40 has been designed and manufactured with eco-friendly materials that don't contain harmful components like PVC. This product is highly recyclable and aims at achieving the Green Computing concept. The 15.4-inch WXGA TFT LCD screen supports 1280x800 Native resolution.

HCL ME 40 comes equipped with 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor, upto 4GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HDD for storage and comes preloaded with Windows 7 Professional. Other features of this notebook include a 1.3 megapixel webcam, integrated 4-in-1 card reader, four USB ports and Bluetooth. Its battery life is claimed to be up to five hours.

ME 40 will have One Touch Support feature for better support and One Touch Recovery feature for faster data recovery by the user. If the user wants to share/transfer a large amount of data from ME branded laptops, HCL offers 'SPLIT ME' option to do it rapidly.

For data security, HCL offers Encrypt ME that encrypts the user data and 'LOCK ME' that locks the user data to protect against theft. Once enabled, it isn't possible for anyone to transfer, copy or write data from the encrypted system.

Several questions would be raised on ME 40's high price and low specifications but only tests can justify whether the product is worth it or not.

Vodafone Prepares World's Cheapest Mobile Phone :MWC 2010

Vodafone announced yesterday what it claims is the “its most affordable ultra low cost handset to date”. It’ll be a pair of phones, the Vodafone 150 and 250, which will both retail for $15 and $20 unsubsidized. They’re hoping the device will make it to developing markets, and they hope it’ll help get phones in the hands of more people.

As Vodafone’s press release says, the purpose of these ultra-cheap handsets is “to maximize the availability of [cell service] across countries with sizeable and isolated rural populations.” The list of countries that they hope to target is India, Turkey, Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Qatar, South Africa and Tanzania.

As you can imagine, there isn’t a lot of decent telcom coverage in some of these countries. Vodafone has been adding an “extensive logistics infrastructure” for some time and they say they can reach “deep rural segments where mobile penetration is low.”

The phones will offer both voice and SMS services. They’ll even support a pay-by-SMS feature for mobile payments. As for the phones themselves, obviously, they’re low-cost and a bit crude by most standards. The Vodafone 150 will feature a monochrome screen while the Vodafone 250 will support a color screen and an FM radio.

It will support custom ringtones, phonebook connectivity and 2 embedded games, the folks at Vodafone aren’t totally draconian. These remind me of a Nokia 5120, they’re basically 10 year old mobile phones. The Vodafone 150 will go for $15 unsubsidized and the Vodafone 250 will go for $20 unsubsidized. No word on a release date, but if you’re reading this, you’re probably not in the market for one.

HTC Legend May Join Nexus One in Google's Android Store infoSync World

One of the two new smartphones with Google's Android mobile operating system that High Tech Computer (HTC) plans to start selling in March isn't officially billed as an update to Nexus One, but its design is similar and it offers improvements over the Google phone.

The similarity is no big surprise considering HTC built Nexus One for Google.

The HTC Desire, as the handset is called, carries specifications nearly identical to the Nexus One with a few key changes.

The two handsets both sport 3.7-inch AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) touchscreens, use Android version 2.1 (Eclair), are almost identical in size and depth, carry 5-megapixel cameras with flash and use 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets.

One improvement in the HTC Desire is the use of an optical joystick as an alternative to using the touchscreen. Nexus One has a trackball for the same function, and trackballs tend to get dirty over time. The optical joystick is touch free.

The HTC Desire also adds FM radio, which the Nexus One lacks.

Another difference to the two handsets is an updated version of HTC's Sense user interface (UI) on Desire. The new UI makes improvements on a number of important areas, including social networking, Internet browsing, e-mail and contact management.

The UI adds Friend Stream, a view of messages coming from various social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as a new way to use the touchscreen to see all seven main screens by pinching two fingers together on the screen.

The UI also puts a person's contacts into new groups so a single text message can be sent to a specific group of friends. It offers better e-mail management than the previous version, including an Unread E-mail Group for unread e-mail from all addresses, as well as the ability to Add Widgets such as Call Mom, which starts green and turns red over time if Mom's phone number is dialed, or a widget to split dinner bills or perform other tasks.

Google's Buzz Puts Facebook, Twitter on Notice - Reviews by PC Magazine

Google isn't actually closed to anyone. And I know Google execs talked about Google Buzz being a model for the open social network. But the intention is clear: Google wants everyone to live, work, play and, most importantly, share from within its services. Sounds a little bit like Google's "frenemy," Apple, doesn't it?

Yet Google's apps don't so much work together as they each provide another link in a chain meant to encircle and enable us. We use Google's search engine to find stuff; Picasa to store, post and share photos (and video); Gmail for, well, mail; Google Chat for real-time conversations; Google Docs to create documents; Google Voice to manage phone calls; Google Reader to control the fire hose of RSS feeds, and other updates; YouTube to share and consume videos and Wave to – well, we're still trying to figure that one out.

Google's catalog of capabilities lack cohesion, even when one app can access another.
Basically, all of Google's services leverage the power its search engine, combining its results with the ever-present AdSense contextual ad integration technology. They never feel like the collection of apps in Apple iLife or Microsoft Office or exhibit the synchronicity of the iPhone OS and iTunes.

Buzz has a bit of this hive-mind mentality, but definitely borrows a lot more from Facebook's somewhat linear approach than it does from the intricate design of a spider's web.Gmail may be Google's most successful invention after Search, and putting Buzz inside of it – instead of making it live on its own like Wave – was a smart idea. Your e-mail inbox is a little like a newsfeed anyway, so having a Buzz tab with a real "newsfeed" of your latest updates from contacts is smart. Google wants people to see Buzz as dead simple to use, so you don't go out trolling for followers (Twitter) or finding friends (Facebook). Instead, they're based on your existing Gmail contacts. It's like a white-listed social network.

Once you have this set up, Google's Buzz tries to keep you in the Google circle of trust by allowing you to preview embedded links. Photos and video that may be part of a link you're sharing show up right inside the Gmail feed. This differs from Twitter, which sends people out of the site to various links. Inevitably, Buzz will look at lot more like Facebook, which also has a habit of bringing in content, whether it be posting on another user's wall, or newsfeeds with integrated photos and video.

Perhaps that's why Google didn't mention Facebook. Unlike Twitter, it's not listed or even shown as an icon on the Buzz intro page. I'd venture that's because Google perceives Facebook, with all of its on-page activity, chummy relationship with Microsoft and embedded chat functionality, as more of a threat than Twitter.

Twitter, despite its loyal following, isn't really given a lot of respect here. I love how Google execs said the "@" reply function is now popular on the web, as if Twitter didn't invent it. It's not that Google dislikes Twitter – they are integrating live Twitter feeds inside search results, after all – but there's something in the way Google introduced Buzz that almost seems to dismiss Twitter.

Not everything you do in the Buzz environment will occur within Gmail. Buzz touches Google's standard search results via the profiles feature. If you've built an official profile in Google Buzz, then people can see your updates by searching on your name. Buzz also extends out into the mobile space. Here Google layered on Latitude's "where you at" functionality, plus Google Maps, to make Buzz a localization powerhouse. People can see where you are, while you can see other Buzz activity in your area – all of it overlaid on a map.

Not surprisingly, user privacy issues have sprung up. Funny how people didn't even bother to ask those questions when they started using Facebook! Instead, they updated like crazy, posting personal and private information for the world to see – then discovered they didn't like it. Google front-loads public and private options in Buzz, helping to distinguish the two. I still expect users to over-share, however.

The larger question is whether or not Google's new paradigm for social interaction can succeed. My gut gives it a 50-50 chance. Google did choose well, putting Buzz inside a familiar app you already use (if you're on Gmail) all the time. But no one is really waiting for you to join them on Buzz. When you first sign up for Facebook, all those old friends and relatives already on it come out of the woodwork to greet you. It's actually kind of creepy. Still, Facebook is too firmly entrenched to be threatened by Buzz. I use Twitter too much to be objective about Buzz's ability to supplant it. On the other hand, most consumers still don't use Twitter, so Google probably doesn't really have to worry about it.

Buzz will roll out slowly over the next few weeks; many people will try it. But Facebook has had the benefit of thousands upon thousands of college students using it before most average consumer ever heard of it. How, exactly, will Buzz collect and energize a similar army of word-of-mouth marketers? Usually the best way is to reach out and engage the Web through various social networks. But then that defeats the purpose of Buzz, doesn't it?

Retaining all of the traditional characteristics that have made the EOS Rebel series beloved by entry-level photographers and an industry best-seller, the new Rebel T2i succeeds in bridging the gap between an entry-level camera and a true pro-sumer camera.

Lights, Rebel, Action – EOS HD Video

Continuing this imaging revolution, the new EOS Rebel T2i puts entry-level photographers on the frontline equipped with all the latest EOS HD video features including full HD video at 1920x1080 resolution, selectable frame rates, full manual exposure control and the visual options of interchangeable lenses. Google is set to turn Gmail into a communications Hub

Gmail users will soon have more ways to keep up with their friends via a widget that shows quick status updates like Facebook and Twitter do, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The move would further turn Gmail, which revolutionized online e-mail, into a comprehensive communications hub. The intent is to keep people’s attention centered on Google, by making Gmail, not Facebook, people’s first stop online — and their default place to send and receive messages. Gmail users can already chat via Jabber or AIM, make video calls, and send SMS messages from Gmail’s web interface. The full extent of the new features remain unclear, but Google is inviting reporters to a launch event Tuesday on its Mountain View campus promising “some innovations in two of our most popular products,” according to an e-mail sent to reporters.

Yahoo has included similar features in its e-mail service, letting users see what photos their contacts have uploaded to Flickr, for example.Google could integrate updates from a user’s Twitter account, since most of that is public. And it could likely make it easy for Gmail users to post to Twitter as well, due to Twitter’s liberal API policy.Facebook, however, will not likely let its rival re-publish status updates, or allow users to publish to their Facebook pages through Gmail. Facebook, much like AOL and Compuserve back in the early 90s, is a controlled and sanitized version of the larger internet, but it relies on closed protocols.

Nasa's Space Shuttle Endeavour With Its Crew Of Six Astronauts Has Blasted Off

The fifth-to-last mission of the space shuttle program got under way early Monday, as the shuttle Endeavour rocketed up from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida to begin a 13-day mission to the International Space Station. The orbiter launched at 4:14 A.M. (Eastern Standard Time), after a launch opportunity Sunday morning was scrapped due to cloud cover.

The STS-130 mission will deliver to the station two major pieces of European-built hardware: a pressurized node known as Tranquility that will house life-support and exercise equipment, and an observation cupola that will be mated to Tranquility to provide panoramic views of the station, Earth and the stars. Once Tranquility and its cupola are installed, the station will be about 90 percent complete, according to NASA.

A flight plan compiled for Spaceflight Now states that the crew will begin its robotic-arm survey of the orbiter's heat shield late Monday night, a standard procedure to look for damage sustained during launch that could threaten the shuttle during atmospheric re-entry. Endeavour will close in on the space station Tuesday night before a planned docking at 12:53 A.M. Wednesday. The four remaining shuttle missions, the last of which is currently scheduled for September, are also construction runs to the space station. Beyond those missions, the future of manned spaceflight in the U.S. is unclear. President Obama's 2011 budget request, delivered February 1, would cancel the successor program to the shuttle, known as Constellation, and rely on the private sector to eventually return astronauts to orbit.

Mission controllers Endeavour to achieve Monday launch

Despite more clouds on the horizon, NASA fueled Endeavour for the second straight night Sunday in hopes of sending the shuttle on the last big space station construction mission.
The launch team began pumping millions of gallons of fuel into Endeavour just as the Super Bowl was kicking off to the south in Miami. NASA's launch director, Mike Leinbach, told his controllers to be at their computers, ready to support the launch, football or not. He said there would be no distractions in the firing room, scene of all the shuttle monitoring.
Endeavour and its crew of six were scheduled to blast off at 4:14 a.m. Monday with a new room and observation deck for the International Space Station.

Sunday morning's try was spoiled by thick, low clouds. The clouds were back Sunday night, but forecasters said it looked more favorable than the previous night and they put the odds of acceptable conditions at 60 percent.
It was the last scheduled night launch for the space shuttle program, winding down after nearly 30 years. After this one, just four flights remain.
Commander George Zamka and his crew awoke after sleeping through the afternoon. They will work the overnight shift in orbit during their two-week mission.

If Endeavour does not make it off the ground Monday, NASA officials said they would probably not try again Tuesday, given the exhausting middle-of-the-night schedule. An unmanned rocket with a solar observatory would have a chance to fly next, on Wednesday, and the shuttle would get in line behind that, later in the week.
"That's space 'biz!" space station commander Jeffrey Williams said in a Twitter update live from orbit. "We on ISS now have some extra prep time."Endeavour is loaded with two major payloads: the Tranquility living quarters and a seven-windowed dome that will give space station residents sweeping 360-degree views of their orbital home, as well as Earth and outer space. Both compartments are courtesy of the European Space Agency. They're worth more than $400 million. The space station will be 98 percent complete once Tranquility and the dome are installed. The Endeavour crew will conduct three spacewalks to hook up everything.

As for the Super Bowl unfolding 200 miles south of Kennedy Space Center, the coin used in the opening toss flew on the last shuttle mission, in November. A former wide receiver, Leland Melvin, was on that flight. He was picked by the Detroit Lions in the NFL draft in 1986, but injured his hamstring and went on — famously — to science and space-flying careers. No, the shuttle crew did not watch the Super Bowl, NASA's launch commentator said. But the game was beamed up to the space station in case the five men there wanted to see it.

Wind U135 – The Newest Version from MSI Available For Worldwide

MSI has just announced the worldwide availability of the MSI Wind U135. The Netbook will retail for $309.99 and up (weirdly enough I think that I have seen the base version for $316.99 on Amazon…). We've told you about it before, so the only news is availability and pricing, but if you missed the previous post, the Netbook's N450 processor consumes only 7 Watt and MSI expects the battery life to be 15% better, when compared to previous models. On the performance side, they mention 10%, but it really depends on what you are doing. To help users manage the battery life, MSI has included a utility that lets one choose between several "modes": Gaming, Movie, Presentation, Document and Turbo Battery.

Wind models are based on the Atom N450 processor running at 1.66GHz with HyperThreading enabled. The chip itself can support 64-bit, however as MSI decided to include Windows 7 Starter Edition, you're left with 32-bit. This is coupled to 1GB of DDR2 and a 250GB WD Blue SATA disk with tests showing an average 57MBps read rate. The specification is very similar to Asus' Eee PC 1005PE except for the higher quality webcam. Intel's N450 does have DirectX 9 support but drawing the frames by hand would provide a better gaming experience. The 10-inch 1024x600 screen first championed by MSI is now pretty much the standard across the board but this particular unit is more acceptable than most. Thanks to the LED backlighting, brightness and contrast are above average for netbook screens. There's also good connectivity with three USB 2 sockets, Ethernet, headphone and microphone jacks and VGA output. Removable storage comes in the form of an SD Card slot.

The very Netbook-looking Netbook comes in charcoal, silver, ruby, or sapphire, aka black, silver, red, or blue, with a film-printed shiny coating. New to the Wind U135 is a raised chiclet keyboard, so that the Netbook joins the ranks of nearly every other laptop nowadays. A new, larger touch pad has also been added. Five different power management settings are built in--not that we have ever had to concern ourselves with power efficiency on a Netbook.

MSI Wind U135 Specifications:

Windows 7 Starter Edition (32-bit)
10.1-inch diagonal WSVGA (1024x600)
Intel Atom N450 Processor 1.66GHz (667MHz FSB, 512KB Cache)
1GB DDR2 SDRAM onboard (1 slot available)
Intel GMA 3150 integrated graphics
250GB Seagate 5400.6 Hard Drive
802.11BGN 1T1R Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
4-in-1 media card slot
Dimensions: 10.24"(L) x 7.09"(D) x 0.74"~1.24"(H)
Weight: 2.87lbs(not including weight of AC adapter)
6-cell Lithium-Ion battery (5200mAh, 58Wh)

India successfully test nuclear- Agni III missile

NEW DELHI/BHADRAK: India on Sunday successfully test-fired its indigenous nuclear-capable Agni-III missile with a range of over 3,000-km and which
can hit targets deep in China, paving the way for its induction in the armed forces.

The successful test-firing of the Agni-III consolidates India's position among a select group of nations that have intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) capability.

The Sunday test was its fourth and last pre-induction trial. "Now the missile system will be inducted in the armed forces," an official said in the national capital.

The missile, which is capable of carrying warheads weighing up to 1.5 tonnes, was tested from the Inner Wheeler Island at Dhamra, a launch site in Bhadrak district, about 200 km from Orissa capital Bhubaneswar, at 10.50 a.m. Two ships located near the target tracked and witnessed the missile reaching the target accurately.

This is the fourth test of the country's most powerful missile which has the capability to hit deep inside China, bringing cities like Shanghai and Beijing within its potent reach.

The missile has a two-stage solid propellant system. During the course of flight, the missile reached a peak height of 350 km and re-entered the atmosphere successfully, tolerating surface temperatures that reached nearly 3,000 degree Celsius.

"The test was highly successful. It met all the mission objectives. All the events took place as expected," S.P. Dash, director of the Integrated Test Range (ITR), told IANS from the site after the test.

"The launch is part of the pre-induction trials. The Indian Army (the user) has carried out the total launch operations guided by the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) scientists," an official said.

The first test, from the same defence base on July 9, 2006, was unsuccessful. The second stage of the rocket had failed to separate from the missile quickly enough and the missile had fallen short of its target.

The DRDO-developed missile was tested again on April 12, 2007 and May 9, 2008, and both the tests were successful.

Agni-III, one of the Agni series missiles, has a length of 17 metres, a diameter of 2 metres and a launch weight of 50 tonnes.

While Agni-I is a 750-800 km short-range missile, Agni-II has a range of more than 1,500 km. Both have already been inducted into the armed forces.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony termed the test of Agni-III as a remarkable achievement and congratulated DRDO chief V.K. Saraswat and other scientists for making it a success.

BlackBerry Bold 9700

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is a smartphone that is offered by T-Mobile as well as AT&T in the U.S. When talking about its screen one should admit that it is amazing. But the screen is small if compare with the predecessor. It is bright enough.

Fusion Garage’s Latest Gadget: JooJoo Tablet PC

Fusion Garage’s JooJoo tablet, which began its life as the TechCrunch CrunchPad, was announced in December 2009. This latest gadget has a 12-inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, a 1GB of memory and a 4GB Solid State Drive (used to store the OS and cache data). Instead of custom-built apps, the JooJoo tablet uses the web as its primary platform. It also supports Flash and reportedly plays 1080p Youtube streaming videos fairly well. It has an integrated USB 2.0 port, and built-in speakers with mic combo. The downside of JooJoo Tablet PC is that, it doesn’t offer any connectivity mode other than WiFi, and because the JooJoo tablet uses the Internet as its platform, the lack of an “App Store” is also another downside. The JooJoo Tablet PC costs $499, a price comparable to the iPad so, which one will you buy?
