For Uploading Pirate copy of Super Mario Bros Wii fined $1.6m

IT'S game over for one over-zealous player who was fined $1.5m for illegally copying and uploading a pre-release version of a popular game.James Burt, 24 from Brisbane, received an early copy of Nintendo's Super Mario Bros Wii and made it available for download from a website, which has since been shut down.

As a result of his actions the Federal Court ordered Burt to pay Nintendo $1.5m in damages and also cover the $100,000 in court costs. The Super Mario Bros games are among the most popular ever produced by Nintendo with millions of copies sold around the world.

Canon EOS Rebel T2i borrows from 7D, T1i feature set

THE NEW CANON REBEL T2i DIGITAL SLR TAKES ASPIRING PHOTOGRAPHERS BEYOND THE STILL WITH ADVANCED VIDEO FEATURESThe Family Camera is Back, Introducing the EOS Rebel T2i Featuring a Large 18-Megapixel CMOS Sensor and Full HD Video Recording with Selectable Frame Rates up to 30 fps

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., February 8, 2010 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today introduced the new flagship model for the Company's highly popular Rebel DSLR line: the Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR camera. Today's photo enthusiast is looking for a camera that will grow with them as they learn, and that is a perfect description of the new EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR camera. Retaining all of the traditional characteristics that have made the EOS Rebel series beloved by entry-level photographers and an industry best-seller, the new Rebel T2i succeeds in bridging the gap between an entry-level camera and a true pro-sumer camera.

Lights, Rebel, Action – EOS HD Video
Canon's EOS HD video capture has helped spark a major movement in digital imaging, empowering still photographers with the ability to experiment, learn and capture stunning high-definition video through a variety of creative lenses. Continuing this imaging revolution, the new EOS Rebel T2i puts entry-level photographers on the frontline equipped with all the latest EOS HD video features including full HD video at 1920x1080 resolution, selectable frame rates, full manual exposure control and the visual options of interchangeable lenses. Manual video exposure control provides novice filmmakers with the image control they are accustomed to in a still camera, all while shooting professional-level cinematic video. Professional photographers utilize creative lighting, adjustable depth-of-field and a variety of lenses to create powerful still images and video footage, and these are exactly the tools that the new Rebel T2i gives to budding photo and video enthusiasts.

Google is set to turn Gmail into a communications Hub

Gmail users will soon have more ways to keep up with their friends via a widget that shows quick status updates like Facebook and Twitter do, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The move would further turn Gmail, which revolutionized online e-mail, into a comprehensive communications hub. The intent is to keep people’s attention centered on Google, by making Gmail, not Facebook, people’s first stop online — and their default place to send and receive messages. Gmail users can already chat via Jabber or AIM, make video calls, and send SMS messages from Gmail’s web interface. The full extent of the new features remain unclear, but Google is inviting reporters to a launch event Tuesday on its Mountain View campus promising “some innovations in two of our most popular products,” according to an e-mail sent to reporters.

Yahoo has included similar features in its e-mail service, letting users see what photos their contacts have uploaded to Flickr, for example.Google could integrate updates from a user’s Twitter account, since most of that is public. And it could likely make it easy for Gmail users to post to Twitter as well, due to Twitter’s liberal API policy.Facebook, however, will not likely let its rival re-publish status updates, or allow users to publish to their Facebook pages through Gmail. Facebook, much like AOL and Compuserve back in the early 90s, is a controlled and sanitized version of the larger internet, but it relies on closed protocols.

Nasa's Space Shuttle Endeavour With Its Crew Of Six Astronauts Has Blasted Off

The fifth-to-last mission of the space shuttle program got under way early Monday, as the shuttle Endeavour rocketed up from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida to begin a 13-day mission to the International Space Station. The orbiter launched at 4:14 A.M. (Eastern Standard Time), after a launch opportunity Sunday morning was scrapped due to cloud cover.

The STS-130 mission will deliver to the station two major pieces of European-built hardware: a pressurized node known as Tranquility that will house life-support and exercise equipment, and an observation cupola that will be mated to Tranquility to provide panoramic views of the station, Earth and the stars. Once Tranquility and its cupola are installed, the station will be about 90 percent complete, according to NASA.

A flight plan compiled for Spaceflight Now states that the crew will begin its robotic-arm survey of the orbiter's heat shield late Monday night, a standard procedure to look for damage sustained during launch that could threaten the shuttle during atmospheric re-entry. Endeavour will close in on the space station Tuesday night before a planned docking at 12:53 A.M. Wednesday. The four remaining shuttle missions, the last of which is currently scheduled for September, are also construction runs to the space station. Beyond those missions, the future of manned spaceflight in the U.S. is unclear. President Obama's 2011 budget request, delivered February 1, would cancel the successor program to the shuttle, known as Constellation, and rely on the private sector to eventually return astronauts to orbit.
